Bowen Technique
What is it?
Thomas A. Bowen developed this technique in the 1950s in Australia. The Bowen Technique is used to enable the body to reset and heal itself. It is an extremely holistic and gentle therapy in which the therapist uses only their thumbs and fingers to make rolling movements over specific muscles, tendons and ligaments. In turn these movements send impulses to the brain that trigger the body's healing systems and result in the body re-balancing itself.
How does it work?
When receiving a bowen technique treatment you will be asked to lie on a comfortable couch or bed, where you will receive light, gentle, precise moves made on your skin. The treatment normally lasts from half an hour to an hour and results in total relaxation which allows the body to balance itself and recharge itself again. On average most problems can be treated within 1 to 3 sessions but if the they problem is more sever then you will need to go ever 3 to 6 months.
How much does it cost?
A Bowen treatment costs around $30-$50 depending on therapist and location.
Are there any side effects?
After a bowen session you will probably suffer from cold or flu symptoms for a day or two, this means that the treatment is working. It is also recommended that you do not take any hot baths or showers and do not carry out any physical exercise because all of these can make the problem to reset itself.
