What is it?
Osteopathy was discovered by Andrew Taylor Still in 1874. Osteopathy is based on the belief that all diseases or disorders are related to the musculoskeletal system which made up of the muscles, nerves and bones. Osteopaths detect damaged parts of the body and treat them. This treatment helps with conditions such as repetitive strain injury, arthritis, postures in pregnancy and sports injuries.
How does it work?
On your first visit to an osteopathic practitioner they will ask you questions about your previous medical history, physical condition and lifestyle. They will also fully assess your spine, posture, balance, muscles, tendons and will also use their hands to manipulate your back, legs and arms. They will then give you a diagnoses and create a treatment plan for you that may well contain medications. . After which you will receive manual techniques to treat your disorders and pains at the source. The first visit will normally last around 30-60 minutes and the rest of the sessions will last around 20-30 minutes. It is also a good idea to go for about 3-6 sessions to gain the full benefits of the treatment.
How much does it cost?
The first visit to an osteopathic practitioner can cost anything from $100-$200 and the follow up sessions can cost $60-$80 depending on what practitioner you use.
Are there any side effects?
You should not attend osteopathic treatments if you have bone cancer, joint or bone infections, osteoporosis and if you have series back injuries.
